Description
Originally released in 1971, the ref. 1655 was the very first Explorer II produced by Rolex. Originally designed for cave explorers, it features a 24-hour hand to help them keep track of time while in the dark. This example from circa 1973 is in good condition for its age, with wear marks across the case and bracelet, as well as some wear on the bezel. Unlike subsequent Explorer II models, the 1655 has a distinctive dial and hand layout. Instead of the brand’s iconic ‘Mercedes’ hands, the 1655 uses less flashy but equally practical pencil hands. The dial is more visually complex, with alternating hour minute markers making for a funky aesthetic.
